SHERLINE Boring Tools

P/N 3061, 3063, 3064

Boring Tools

Sherline boring tools are high-speed steel tools designed for use with the Sherline boring head, P/N 3054 (3049). They have a 3/8" (9.5mm) diameter shank. The cutting end of P/N 3061 is designed to work in a 1/4" (6.4mm) minimum diameter hole with a maximum depth of .600" (15.2mm). P/N 3063 is designed to work in a 5/16" (7.9mm) minimum diameter hole with a maximum depth of 1.00" (25mm). P/N 3064 is similar to 3063 only longer, offering a maximum depth of 1.50". If desired, they can easily be modified to work in a smaller hole.

To minimize tool deflection, use the largest (strongest) boring tool that will fit in your starting hole. The tool should be withdrawn often and the hole cleaned out, as metal cuttings have nowhere to go and can rapidly build up inside a small hole. When boring a hole all the way through a part, make sure the part is shimmed away from the table or is mounted to an expendable plate so the boring tool does not cut into the table’s surface.
